Dr. Anders Cohen Recommends Acupuncture for Back and Neck Pains
Dr. Anders Cohen, Chief of the Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery in Brooklyn Hospital Center says that back and neck pains can be caused by several factors such as stress, physical inactivity, or more serious complications of the spine. Several of his patients who complain of chronic pains consider surgery, but the spine surgeon advises them to try alternative remedies like acupuncture.
Dr. Cohen himself has tried acupuncture and has experienced positive results. The treatment works by inserting needles in specific points in the body to relieve pain. Regular treatments work best for people who experience pain in the back and neck, with minimal discomfort searing down to the arms and legs.
Aside from being more affordable than spine surgery, it does not require patients to undergo a painful recovery period. Each treatment lasts less than an hour and patients can go home immediately. Although there have been no report of major injuries because of acupuncture, Dr. Anders Cohen advises patients to consult a doctor first to minimize risks.
